Unsubscribe Me — Terms of Service
🔒 The short version. Unsubscribe Me is a free desktop app that runs entirely on your own computer. We don't run servers, we don't store your data, and we never see your email. You grant us no rights over your information — it stays on your Mac. These Terms set the ground rules for using the app, and because the app is free and local-first, they are deliberately simple.
Effective date: 2026-06-15 Last updated: 2026-06-15
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you ("you" or "User") and Appstart LLC, a Colorado limited liability company ("Appstart", "we", "us", or "our"), governing your use of the Unsubscribe Me desktop application and any updates to it ("the App").
By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not install or use the App.
These Terms work alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains how the App handles data. Because the App is local-first, the Privacy Policy is the more important of the two documents for understanding what happens to your information: nothing leaves your computer except the requests required to talk to Google and to the unsubscribe destinations you choose.
1. The App and what it does
Unsubscribe Me is a native macOS application that helps you find and unsubscribe from email subscriptions in your own Gmail mailbox. When you connect a Gmail account, the App:
- Scans your mailbox to list subscription emails grouped by sender.
- Detects which senders support one-click unsubscribe (RFC 8058).
- Unsubscribes you from senders you select, and labels, archives, and marks-as-read the affected messages so they stop cluttering your inbox.
All of this processing happens on your own computer. The App has no cloud backend operated by Appstart. We do not receive, store, or have any ability to access your email, your metadata, or your Google credentials. For the full technical detail of what the App reads, writes, and stores locally, see the Privacy Policy.
2. License to use the App
The App is provided to you free of charge. Subject to these Terms, Appstart grants you a personal, worldwide, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to download, install, and use the App on Mac computers that you own or control, for your own personal or internal business use.
This is a license, not a sale. Appstart retains all right, title, and interest in and to the App, including all intellectual property rights. These Terms do not grant you any rights to Appstart's trademarks, logos, or brand.
You may not:
- Sell, rent, lease, sublicense, redistribute, or otherwise commercially exploit the App.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App, except to the extent that applicable law expressly permits despite this limitation.
- Remove or alter any proprietary notices in the App.
- Use the App to violate any law, to infringe anyone's rights, or to send unlawful, abusive, or unsolicited messages.
3. Your Google account and Gmail data
To use the App's email features, you connect your own Gmail account through Google's official OAuth 2.0 sign-in flow and grant the App the gmail.modify permission. You are responsible for:
- Having the right to access and modify the mailbox you connect.
- Reviewing which senders you unsubscribe from and which messages you archive — these actions modify your live Gmail mailbox.
- Complying with Google's own terms, including the Google Terms of Service.
Your use of Gmail and other Google services is governed by your agreement with Google, not by these Terms. Appstart is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Google.
The App acts on your instructions. Unsubscribing, archiving, and labeling are actions you initiate. Once performed against your Gmail account, some of these actions (such as sending a mailto: unsubscribe message to a sender) may not be reversible. You are responsible for the actions you choose to take in the App.
You can disconnect the App from your Google account at any time, either inside the App or at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
4. Google API Services User Data Policy
Unsubscribe Me's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. The App only uses Google user data to provide the user-facing features described above and in the Privacy Policy, does not transfer that data to any server operated by Appstart, does not sell it, and does not use it for advertising or to train AI/ML models. Full details are in Section 6 of our Privacy Policy.
5. No accounts, no fees, no payment
The App is free. There is no Appstart account to create, no subscription, and no payment. We do not collect billing information because there is nothing to bill. If the App ever offers a paid feature in the future, we will present separate terms for that feature before you purchase it, and those terms will not apply retroactively to your free use.
6. Updates and availability
We may release updates to the App from time to time to add features, fix bugs, or maintain compatibility with macOS and Google's APIs. Updates are provided under these same Terms unless an update is accompanied by new terms.
Because the App runs locally, its core functionality does not depend on Appstart keeping any service online. However, the App's email features depend on Google's APIs, which Google controls and may change or discontinue. Appstart is not responsible for changes to, or the unavailability of, Google's services.
We may stop developing, supporting, or distributing the App at any time. If we do, copies you have already installed will continue to function for as long as they remain compatible with your operating system and with Google's APIs.
7. Disclaimer of warranties
THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, APPSTART DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
Appstart does not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will correctly identify every subscription, successfully unsubscribe you from every sender, or that senders will honor unsubscribe requests. Some senders ignore or mishandle unsubscribe requests; that is outside Appstart's control.
Because the App modifies your live Gmail mailbox at your direction, you are encouraged to review your selections carefully before confirming an action.
8. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, APPSTART AND ITS MEMBERS, OFFICERS, AND CONTRACTORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, EMAILS, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF, OR INABILITY TO USE, THE APP — EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
BECAUSE THE APP IS PROVIDED FREE OF CHARGE, APPSTART'S TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE APP OR THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (US $100).
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of certain damages, so some of the above may not apply to you. In that case, Appstart's liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.
9. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Appstart from any claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your misuse of the App, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or the rights of any third party (including Google) in connection with your use of the App.
10. Termination
These Terms apply for as long as you use the App. You may stop using the App at any time by disconnecting your Google account and uninstalling it. We may terminate or suspend the license granted in these Terms if you materially breach them. Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including Sections 2 (ownership), 7, 8, 9, and 11 — will survive.
11. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. You agree that the state and federal courts located in Colorado will have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the App, and you consent to personal jurisdiction and venue in those courts. Nothing in this section prevents either party from seeking injunctive relief in any court of competent jurisdiction.
If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full effect.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms when we change the App or for legal reasons. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide notice within the App the next time you launch a connected account. Your continued use of the App after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.
